BYD certifies its first closed-loop lithium recycling line.

A closed-loop lithium-carbonate recovery line at the Huizhou recycling hub received ISO 14021 self-declaration audit. Recovery yield exceeds 96% for lithium and 99% for cobalt and nickel from end-of-life Blade cells. Output feeds directly back into new-cell production at Shenzhen and Hungary.

The step is measured against BYD's Operational Decarbonisation Plan, which targets 100% net-zero operations across all 41 facilities by 2028. Supply-chain Scope-3 emissions — currently around 68% of the group's total footprint — are tracked through a first-of-its-kind supplier-data platform built in partnership with TÜV Rheinland and Sphera. BYD committed in 2024 to first-party verified reporting for every model family.

"Decarbonising the automotive industry is the work of this decade, and it has to be measurable end-to-end," said Wang Chuanfu, Chairman and President of BYD. "We are committed to transparent reporting, third-party verification, and keeping pace with the science, not the headlines."

The commitment takes effect immediately upon publication on October 22, 2025. Independent progress reporting will accompany the annual Sustainability Report published each April, with methodology assured by third-party auditors under the ISO 14064-1 standard.
